The Well-Dressed Dog

Some people dress their dogs because they think it's cute while
others do it to make a statement.

Some people dress their pets up for special occasions, such as a wedding or for parade.

And sometimes dog clothes can have practical purposes.

Keeping Warm and Dry
Small, shorthair dogs can often benefit from a sweater or coat in winter weather. Older animals of all sizes may need help keeping warm at times.

Likewise, something to keep him warm and dry may be good for both dog and owner.

During really cold winters, doggie booties protect sensitive pads from snow and ice. I wouldn't use these unless your dog really needed them however, as it can disrupt their gait or sense of balance.

Booties are also useful in the case of injuries to the paw, protecting the area and keeping it clean.

Summer Wear

Doggles are sunglasses for dogs. They not only protect a dog's eyes from the sun, but from wind and debris as well. Dogs allowed to ride with their heads out the car window (not really recommended, by the way) should have such protection.

In summer, a wet t-shirt or cooling bandana icon may help keep your dog cool, especially if he has a dark coat. An old shirt will do, or you can buy one made just for dogs.

Not for Everydog
Not all dogs will be comfortable in clothing, and especially something on their paws.

You might want to try an old t-shirt on the dog before you go out and buy something. Make sure it is large enough to be a comfortable fit.

Clothing Runs the Gamut
In addition to the more practical items listed here, you can also find everything from warm scarves to holiday costumes .

You can put your dog in snuggly pajamas before he gets into his vintage pillow bed   and snuggles under his own blanket .

Baubles and Beads
And don't forget to accessorize! Put on a fancy ruff or a gold-plated name tag for that night on the town.
